Abstract

Keloids over ear are benign, fibrous proliferations that have high recurrence. Trauma to ear or any surgical intervention form the main aetiology for these out-pouchings. Treating keloids has become a challenge to the surgeons. Here are 2 cases presented at our tertiary care set up which have undergone surgical excision twice elsewhere and the demonstration now is worse than presentation before.   Keywords: Keloid, Recurrence, Trauma, Ear piercing

Abstract

Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip or mouth does not form properly during pregnancy. Together, these birth defects are commonly called “Oro-facial clefts”. Cleft palate alone can often have problems with feed, speech & hearing and problems with teeth development. The causes of these clefts among most infants are unknown. Cleft lip and cleft palate in a child are thought to be caused by a combination of genes and other factors during their gestational development. Abstract

Inverted papilloma is a benign epithelial growth arising from the underlying stroma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. The pathogenesis of this lesion uptil date remains unclear. The tumor is known for its local invasiveness, rapid recurrence and link with malignancy. The recurrence rate of this tumor is usually too high that represents residual disease in most of the cases. Hence, it is mandate that the patient keeps a proper follow up on long term concerns. Here is one such patient, whose nasal mass seemed Antrochoanal polyp clinically but ended up as Inverted papilloma histopathologically. Abstract

Epidermoid and dermoid cysts occur anywhere from the skin covering the body. Clinicians and Surgeons often have an indicative impasse as there are plenty of cystic lesions in the Head and Neck region. Clinically, these cysts are asymptomatic that appear as uniform, round, doughy masses with a tiny surface opening. If by chance cyst gets infected the lining ruptures that spills out cheesy keratin debris into surrounding soft tissue giving rise to local tenderness and swelling. Keywords: Epidermoid cyst, Dermoid cyst, Head and Neck region, Ear, Pinna
