Abstract

To perform any surgical procedure, we require administration of safe as well as effective local anesthesia. The prime and the most important step in any clinical oral surgical procedure is the administration of local anesthesia. Almost in most of the clinical steps in dentistry, local anesthesia is used, therefore there are chances of complications that might occur with the administration of the local anesthetic drug. It is advised to take the proper history of the patient, i.e., is there any systemic complication that might get enhanced with the administration of the local anesthetic agent. Ask and verify, whether the patient is allergic to any specific medicine or allergic to the local anesthetic agent, to avoid any sort of complication. Keywords: Local, Anesthesia, Complications

Abstract

Out of all the cranial nerves “Trigeminal Nerve” is the fifth cranial nerve. Trigeminal nerve possesses both the components i.e. mixed components as well as sensitive components that’s why trigeminal nerve is known as a mixed nerve. The sensitive component of the trigeminal nerve takes up the sensation from most of the part of the face and the mucous membrane to the central nervous system and that’s why it is responsible for the disease which is known as trigeminal neuralgia. The characteristic feature of the trigeminal neuralgia is the sudden onset of pain which is sharp and lacerating, and that may last from few of the seconds to few minutes. Trigeminal neuralgia more frequently affects the female as compared to the male.   Keywords: Pain, Pain, Trigeminal neuralgia, Sudden onset of pain, Maxillary and mandibular nerve.
