Abstract

Introduction: To study the effect of the chemical and mechanical surface treatment of the glass fiber posts on the retention of the composite resin core material Aims & 0bjectives: To evaluate the influence of glass fibre post surface treatment with hydrofluoric acid [HF], hydrogen peroxide [H2O2] air abrasion via Al2O3 and chemical treatment with Silane coupling agent on tensile bond strength with composite resin core material. Results: tensile bond strength between the glass fiber post and the core material was maximum. And tensile bond strength was minimum those treated with Al2O3 and H2O2 Conclusion: The effects of twelve different surface treatments on the retention of a glass fibre post, and to recommend surface treatment measures that can provide better retention and can be used as an effective method for bonding glass fibre post to resin cement. Keywords: Glass fiber, Core material, Surface treatment (HF, H2O2,) Al2O3.

Abstract

Introduction: To study the evaluation of effectiveness of early loaded versus delayed loaded single tooth implants. Aims & Objectives: To compare the effect of early loading implant (7-14 days) with delayed loading implant (4-5 months) after surgery on clinical and radiographic parameters, with 6 months follow-up. Material and Methods: 20 systemically healthy patients present with single missing tooth either in maxilla / mandible were treated with either early loading or delayed loading of single tooth implant. Results: Significant reduction in the plaque and papillary bleeding index at 6 months post-surgery indicated satisfactory improvement in oral hygiene and gingival condition. Delayed loaded implants group had a success rate of 100%, while early loaded implant group had 90%. Keywords: Early loading, Delayed loading, Single tooth implant.

Abstract

Introduction: To study the residual monomer leached out in heat cure poly methylmethacrylate Resins of commonly used brands using different polymerization cycles. Aims and Objectives: To compare the amount of leachable residual monomer in Poly methylmethacrylate of heat cure brands available in market at different time interval that are polymerized by short and long curing cycle. Results: Results from the study shows that following short curing cycle denture has to be kept in water for 48 hours whereas following long curing cycle denture has to be kept in water for minimum for 24 hours in order to deliver denture with least leachable residual monomer. Conclusion: From the results of this study it was concluded higher level of residual methylmethacrylate was leached from short curing cycle than long curing cycle, suggesting that long curing cycle causes greater degree of polymerization as compared to the short curing cycle, resulting in the reduction of amount of residual monomer in long curing cycle. It was observed that by keeping immersed regular resin denture of short curing cycle for 48 hours duration, the leaching of monomer has significantly decreased, whereas long curing cycle requires resin denture to be immersed for 24 hours duration only which showed significant reduction in leaching of monomer. Keywords: Short curing cycle, long curing cycle, Heat cure acrylic resin.

Abstract

Background: To study the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions/conditions in the 35-44 age group of adults of Patnacity, Bihar, India. Aims and Objectives: This study aims to assess the prevalence and describe the epidemiology. Materials and Methods: A Hospital based survey was carried out among patients attending the outpatient Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology in Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, patients aged 35-44 year age group as per the index age group as per the World Health Organization’s Basic Oral Health Survey’s Criteria. Result: The present study was designed on 1200 subjects to assess the prevalence of oral mucosal lesion who visited our department seeking dental treatment. The result showed that leukoplakia was the most prevalent in our population. More subjects with leukoplakia of 40-44 years in our population were males. Lesion was more prevalent in buccal mucosa and lichen planus had female predeliction in the age group of 35-40 years of age. The lesion was more prevalent in buccal mucosa. Keyword: Leukoplakia, Lichen planus, ANUG, OSMF.

Abstract

Background: To study the association between oral health status and pregnancy in Patna (Bihar). Aims and Objectives: This study aims to examine periodontal status in pregnant women and assess the relationship with parity, socio-economic factors, gestational age, education and oral hygiene behaviour of the women. Materials and Methods: A Hospital based survey was carried out among women attending the antenatal outpatient department in two hospitals, Patna medical college and Nalanda medical college and hospital, to evaluate the periodontal health among pregnant women and its relationship between socio-demographic variables like age, education, income. Periodontal examination was done by CPI probe and oral health status was also recorded using indices (plaque index, by Silness & Loe gingival index, by Loe &Silness, debris index and OHI-S indices by Green &Vermillion) Result: In the present study, of the 365 patients presenting with mild gingivitis, 40.5% were in their 1st trimester, 31.2% in 2nd and 28.2% in their 3rd trimesters. Of the 231 patients with moderate gingivitis, the maximum percentage of patients shifted to the 3rd trimester (42.9%), with 36.21% patients in their 2nd trimester and only 20.8% in their 1st trimester. Keywords: Pregnancy, Gingivitis, and Periodontal disease.
