Abstract

Objective: To assess the prevalence of dental caries, oral hygiene status, deft and oral hygiene habits in special health care needs in Lucknow district. Materials and Methods: An epidemiological study was conducted including 1041 children to assess the prevalence of dental caries, oral hygiene status, deft, enamel opacities and oral hygiene habits of which data was retrieved. Descriptive statistics that included mean, standard deviation and percentages were calculated for each of the categories. Data were analyzed using Chi- square test and ANOVA test. Results: Caries prevalence was higher in male handicapped children 24.45% (256) than females 21.49% (225) and the difference was statistically significant (P those who clean their teeth by themselves, with other’s help and under supervision have got prevalence dental caries 413(85.86%), 34(7.07%) and 34(7.07%) respectively. Dental caries prevalence of 54.22% was observed in children having good oral hygiene, 50% caries prevalence observed in children having fair oral hygiene, 57.85% prevalence among children having poor oral hygiene. The differences between oral hygiene status and caries prevalence was not significant, c2= 3.69, P>0.05. Conclusion: The dental profession should be aware of its responsibilities and be prepared to play its part in improving the dental health of handicapped children. Doctors, health visitors, teachers, caretakers and parents play a vital role in maintenance of good oral health of handicapped children. School dental health programs should be undertaken including school dental health education, school dental health services and school health environment. Abstract

Objective: To evaluate intra group and intergroup comparison between three different adhesives with and without primer. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 first premolars were selected randomly for in vivo study and are divided into six groupsGroup 1-(Transbond XT with Primer), Group 2 (Transbond XT without Primer), Group 3 (Orthofix with Primer), Group 4 (Orthofix without Primer), Group 5 (Flowable Composite with Primer), Group 6 (Flowable Composite without Primer). Metal brackets were bonded on teeth by using three different adhesives :Transbond XT, Orthofix and Flowable composite with and without primer. shear bond strength was assessed by modified testing machine with adhesive remnant index(ARI) score for different adhesives Results: Statistical analysis showed The mean shear bond strength of Transbond XT was maximum (9.773.09MPa) followed by that of Orthofix (8.752.04MPa) and minimum of Flowable composite (7.821.71MPa)and ARI suggested that the fracture occurred between composite and bracket interface. Conclusion: Transbond XT has the highest shear bond strength while the flowable composite has the least strength but it is more than the optimal strength required hence can be used in bonding. Orthofix showed shear bond strength equivalent to Transbond XT when used without primer. Keywords: Shear bond strength, Adhesive remnant index, Orthodontic adhesives.

Abstract

Forensics has always considered Palatal rugae as a stable landmark for identification in cases of mishap which needs forensic intervention. Many previous studies have claimed that palatal design and structure is not altered during growth as its position protects it from external trauma. But this theory can now be challenged with studies showing otherwise as a number of people are undergoing Orthodontic treatment to enhance their aesthetics. The question that now arises is that can palatal rugae be actually considered a stable landmark? How orthodontic treatment alters the structure of rugal area and how tooth movement affects the stability of rugae. This article throws light on significant effects of tooth movement on palatal rugae reported by various studies. Keywords: Palatal rugae, Orthodontic treatment, Stability, Variability, Landmark.
