Abstract

Lingual foramen is an opening present commonly on the lingual aspects of mandible and it is commonly a midline structure. It consists of blood vessels that supply the anterior mandible. This study was conducted with aim of analyzing the location, number, radiographic subtypes and relationship of lingual foramen/foramina with the alveolar crest on Cone Beam Computed Tomography. Double lingual foramen is shown in most of the cases followed by single foramen. In our study, all 104(100%) patients showed median and lingual position of lingual foramen. There was significant difference in single lingual foramen between males and females. Type I lingual foramen was most commonly found followed by type VI. CBCT is advanced and most important diagnostic tool in order to reveal morphological features and normal anatomical variations as it further helps in planning an implant or corrective surgical treatment procedure. Keywords: CBCT, Lingual foramen, Lingual vascular canal, Mandible implant treatment planning.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this clinical prospective study was to determine the location, clinical presentation, and gender distribution of oral lichen planus patients attending the department of oral medicine and radiology, Government dental college Srinagar in Kashmiri population. Materials and Methods: This prospective clinical study included 200 patients reported to the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Government Dental College Srinagar, with the clinical and pathological diagnosis of OLP. Data was compiled for each case, documenting information relating to age, gender, medication, habits(smoking, oral hygiene), anamnesis (reason for consultation, symptomatology, evolution. Results: Out of 200 patients, 116 (58%) were females and 84(42%) were males indicating higher prevalence of OLP in females. Buccal mucosa being the most common site affected in 132 patients (66%), followed by tongue in 46 patients (23%) and the least frequent involved site was palate in 2 patients (1%).The most common clinical presentation was of reticular type in 128 patients (64%), and the least common was bullous type in 3 patients (1.5%). Conclusion: Lichen planus is one of the mucocutaneous disorders which involve skin, scalp, nails and oral mucosa. Lichen planus of skin is known as cutaneous lichen planus that is characterized by most common symptoms of pigmented cutaneous lesions which are pruritic. For a general practitioner it is very important to know the important clinical features, diagnosis and treatment plan for this disease in order to differentiate it from other mucocutaneous lesions and to educate the patient about the premalignant nature of disease. Keywords: Greenspan syndrome, Wickham striae, Nikolsky’s sign.

Abstract

Introduction: Mandible plays a vital role in sex determination because of some special features like it is the most dimorphic, largest, strongest and mobile bone of skull. Gender of an unknown individual can be determined from the morphology and metric features of skull and mandible, soft tissues, as well as by DNA analysis of teeth. The variations in shape of coronoid process of mandible may acts as anthropological markers, to assess different populations & races. Materials and methods: Eighty panoramic radiographs (160 sides) 40 males and 40 females were selected from the patients who reported in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology for treatment. Results: In the present study it was found that most common type of the coronoid process in both genders was the triangular type followed by hook and rounded types. It was also found in the present study that the condylar height is more in males (average height in males is 60.55±5.6 mm.) than females (average height in females is 54.87 ±5.6mm).The right condylar process is longer (average height is 58.41±5.6 mm) than the left coronoid process (average height is 57.01±5.6 mm). Conclusion Coronoid process is considered as one of the hidden tool in forensics which can be effectively used for the sex determination for medico legal purposes and maxillofacial surgeons and plastic surgeons for reconstructive purposes. Keywords: Panoramic radiograph, Anthropological analysis, DNA analysis.
