Abstract

Undernutrition is one of the significant public health issues for developing countries like India. Although a decreasing rate still needs to concentrate more on the stunting and waste cases of under-five children living in every district in India. This short review study has mainly focused on West Bengal’s children under five years of age residing in rural and urban areas with various undernutrition issues. The study’s aim and objective are to assess the current status of undernutrition among children in India, precisely West Bengal. The open-access data from Unicef on stunting estimation and National Family Health Survey 5 (NFHS-5) data on key indicators for West Bengal were computed and analyzed as per available information. In addition, the nutrients data from Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) were also selected as per the requirements of 0-5 years of Indian children. Apart from basic level analysis, the dietary recommendations were also emphasized for the parents and stakeholders related to government and private community nutrition works. Moreover, the study shows a glimpse of undernutrition status and dietary recommendations for the below five years of children in rural and urban settings to make children nutritious. Abstract

Thyroidectomy is a surgical technique used to treat cancer, noncancerous thyroid enlargement, goiter, and hyperthyroidism. It is a procedure to remove all or sections of the thyroid gland. Most importantly, some common complications are often observed, like weight gain, loss of libido, and vocal cord paresis or paralysis after thyroidectomy. After surgery, diabetic patients are more prone to comorbidities such as kidney disease, eyes health issues, hypertension, obesity, etc. This study highlighted the probable diet and essential home-based nutrition for post thyroidectomy complications. Weight gain is the common complaint of most patients who underwent surgery. Currently, there are insufficient data that do not provide clear conclusions about post-surgery diet plan. However, low carbohydrate, low fat but high veg-protein-rich diet are altogether helpful for weight loss, diabetes, and related complication. More research is needed in the medical nutrition therapies segment to get more dietary options for such patients.   Keywords: Thyroidectomy diet, Weight gain, Thyroidectomy complications, Vocal cord paresis, Medical nutrition therapy.

Abstract

Introduction: Current trends show that many people, mainly young generations, are inclined to crash dieting by adopting various fad diets visible in popular search engines. Fad diets may be helpful in very few cases if customized for a particular patient or a person. As per current topics, metabolic syndrome is a severe issue that may be a single disorder or a group of diseases that often affect many people. Objective: To systematically review and analyze current literature trends on various fad diets and their links with adult populations’ metabolic syndrome. Materials and Methods: A systemic review was conducted by searching and selecting open-sourced articles in Medline, EMBASE, SCI, Cochrane databases. Free text search and selective vocabulary terms relating to fad diets, crash dieting,weight-loss diet, metabolic syndrome diets, health, etc., were used for an online search. After extensive literature search and filtration of studies, finally, 13 studies were selected for the systemic review with the help of NVIVO 10 software. Results: ’Word frequency’under the query section was used to analyze word frequency as per criteria. The searching text option was considered at the 40% level by choosing the 20 most frequent display words with five minimum lengths. The study showed the most focussing word ’weight’ with 0.55% and 716 counts followed by ’health’ with 0.41% having 620 counts in the word frequency list among all the 20 most used keywords in all the papers. Similarly, the word ’diet’ was used in 561 counts with 0.43%. The study also demonstrated word cloud figure and cluster analysis by word similarity. Hence there was no need for other coding and meta-analysis as all papers were imported from Mendeley for review Conclusion: More research is needed on the fad diet and metabolic syndrome; however, authors are concerned about public health safety. Keywords: Fad diet, Diet patterns, Health, Metabolic syndrome weight loss heart health.
