Abstract

Oral cancer has become serious health issues. It is owing to a variety of factors including poor hygiene, tobacco usage, chewing tobacco, smoking, and others. Along with surgery and chemotherapy, the most common treatments include radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Patients with cancer may experience oral toxic effects as a result of antineoplastic therapy such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Abstract

Maxillectomy defects are the most common results in oro-nasal communication, which leads to an expected change in speech tone, difficulty in mastication, and deglutition. These affect the quality of life of the patient and also impact them psychosocially in a long run. The most common management of maxillectomy patients for both complete and partial is by maxillary obturator prosthesis. To reduce the weight of the obturators various procedures of hollowing are present in literature. In this article, we will discuss an alternate and innovative laboratory technique for the fabrication of closed hollow obturator which will reduce the time of both dental technicians and clinicians. Keywords: Obturator fabrication, Closed hollow obturator, Obturator fabrication with elastomers

Abstract

A burning sensation of the oral mucosa without any obvious oral lesions is a defining feature of the burning mouth syndrome (BMS), a chronic and untreatable orofacial pain syndrome. Women in their later years of life who are experiencing hormonal shifts or psychological issues are most affected by this ailment. BMS patients also complains of pain in oral mucosa, taste perception changes and dry mouth with burning sensation. Even though the exact cause of BMS is unknown, a complicated correlation between biological and psychological components has been found, pointing to the possibility of a multiple etiology. This article's goal is to review the etiology, clinical manifestation, and management of BMS.   Keywords: Burning mouth syndrome, Dry mouth, Pain
