Abstract

Polycystic kidney disease is a rare developmental anomaly inherited as Autosomal dominant or recessive. Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) is an intractable cystic renal disease that results in chronic renal failure. It has a profound effect on growing fetus and result in serious implications if pregnancy is continued in the long run after being detected on sonography. Although prenatal imaging studies and clinical findings are suggestive of ARPKD it can be accurately diagnosed by histopathology if an autopsy is performed in cases of infant death. In this article we here in present the features of ARPKD diagnosed antenatally by USG in a 22 yr female, and was confirmed further by fetal autopsy.   Keywords : Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease, Fetus, Bilateral renal cysts.

Abstract

Ovarian cystadenofibroma are rare slow growing benign epithelial ovarian neoplasms. It usually occurs as solid and cystic component. Most of the tumours are asymptomatic and detected incidentally during abdominal ultrasound for some other purpose. They may mimick malignant neoplasm with their gross appearance and imaging modalities. So a diagnosis of serous papillary cystadenofibroma of ovary on frozen section can save the patient from unwanted extensive surgery. We here in discuss a case of serous papillary cystadenofibroma of ovary in a 45 year old multipara that was diagnosed initially on frozen section and later confirmed on histopathology, thus highlighting the role of frozen section in diagnosis of intraoperative ovarian neoplasms.   Keywords: Benign, Serous papillary cystadenofibroma, Ovary

Abstract

Opthalmomyiasis is infestation of eye and ocular adnexa by larva of flies. Most common causative agent is Oestrus ovis. A 10 year male child of a farmer presented to opthalmology OPD with acute onset of redness of eye since 2 days. Opthalmological examination revealed conjunctival congestion and lacrimation. Examination of bulbar conjunctiva showed small transluscent organisms with dark head seen to crawl over bulbar conjunctiva. Slit lamp examination and internal opthalmoscopy reports were normal. The organisms were removed with the help of fine forceps after applying 4% of lignocaine topically. Following fixation with formalin, a DPX mount was made and the organism was identified as Oestrus Ovis. Local antibiotics were prescribed to the patient for a week and the patient was cured.   Keywords: Oestrus Ovis, Opthalmomyiasis, Red eye

Abstract

Chondroid syringoma is a rare mixed tumour of sweat gland origin that is characterised by sweat gland elements in a cartiliginous stroma. Its an uncommon cutaneous tumour of head and neck region with a reported incidence rate of 0.01% to 0.1%. Its occurence in periorbital tissues is rare and usually are small in size. Here we report a case of giant chondroid syringoma (>3 cms) arising in the lower eyelid. Keywords: Benign, Eyelid mas, Mixed tumor, Chondroid syringoma

Abstract

Pleomorphic lipoma is a rare neoplasm that is considered as a variant of spindle cell lipoma. It predominantly occurs in the dermis or subcutis of the posterior neck, upper back, and shoulders. Pleomorphic lipoma may clinically present as a slow-growing and well-circumscribed subcutaneous mass. Though it is a benign tumour it may contain atypical cells for which it may mimick sarcoma or other malignant soft tissue tumours. So histopathological diagnosis is vital for preventing unnecessary surgery. Here we report a case of a pleomorphic lipoma on upper back in a 55yr old patient.   Keywords: Bizzare cells, Pleomorphic lipoma.

Abstract

Rhinoscleroma is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by gram negative rod shaped bacteria Klebsiella rhinoscleromatis. Most common sites of predilection include the nasal cavity and nasopharynx, but there are reports of its occurrence at other sites like the larynx, trachea, bronchi, middle ear, and orbit. We are reporting here a case of rhinoscleroma in a middle aged female patient involving the nasal cavity along with a brief review of literature.   Keywords: Rhinoscleroma, mikulicz cells, chronic granulomatous infection.

Abstract

Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hopf (AKV) is a rare cutaneous autosomal dominant genodermatosis described by Hopf in 1931. It usually presents at birth or may appear as late as 5 decade of life. It is characterized by multiple hyperkeratotic, verrucous papules/plaques to multiple planar wart like lesions on dorsal aspects of hand and feet. Due to rarity of the case, we present a case of AKV in a 60-year-old male that was diagnosed on histopathology. We the authors have attempted to describe the histological features of AKV with differential diagnosis of these lesions through review of literature.   Keywords: Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hopf, Churchspires, Genodermatosis, Tretinoin.

Abstract

Nevus lipomatosis cutaneous superficialis (NLCS) is a rare cutaneous hamartomatous lesion or connective tissue nevus having two clinical forms a). classical Hoffman-Zurhelle form and b). solitary form. We report a classical case of nevus lipomatosus superficialis in a 35-year-old male in the left flank. Histopathology showed presence of ectopic mature adipocytes extending to the papillary dermis with no connection to underlying subcutaneous fat, thus clinching our diagnosis. Excision is the ultimate cure with minimal chance of recurrence.   Keywords: Nevus lipomatosus superficialis, Connective tissue nevus, Hamartoma, adipocytes
