Abstract

Background: Neonatal bacterial infection remains a significant cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. CRP parameter can be the indicator to use the proper antibiotic with certain duration. Materials and Methods: 60 Neonates < 28> 6 as group 2. Results: Clinical features: 48(80%) born by vaginal delivery, 4(66%) had maternal fever >100.4 F, 6(10%) PROM, 23(38.3%) refusal to feeds, 20(33.3%) were lethargic, 12(20%) had poor cry, 7(11.6%) had jaundice, 8(13.3%) had conjunctivitis, 7(11.6%) had vomiting, 4(6.6%) had excessive cry, 3(5%) abdominal distension, 3(5%) hypothermia, 1(1.6%) had fever, 2(3.3%) diarrhoea, 1(1.6%) umbilical Sepsis. The Gram Negative organismsseen in 20(33.3%). In Group A-28 neonates had CRP value 6, 2 neonates treated for 5 days, 17 for 7 days, 13 for 11 days and 26 neonates had positive blood culture. Conclusion: CRP levels plays vital role to evaluate the duration of antibiotic therapy in neonates of suspected bacterial infection.   Keywords: Sepsis, PROM, C reactive protein, Neonates, Antibiotic therapy

Abstract

Background: Proper feeding practices during first two years of life are essential for the growth and development of young children to prevent malnutrition associated morbidity and mortality. Materials and Methods: The children aged between 6 months to 18 months were selected for study. The detailed history was obtained from their mother. The different feeding patterns prelacteal feeding, time of inception of first feeding, causes of stoppage of breast feeding studied and classified with percentage. Results: In the study of inception of first feeding 35(46.6%) were < 6hrs> Conclusion: The present study will be helpful to paediatrician to evaluate the feeding pattern to prevent malnutrition, morbidity and mortality in children.   Keywords: Breast feeding, Prelacteal feeding, Malnutrition, Morbidity, Mortality

Abstract

Background: Substantial number of mothers with decreased amniotic fluid volume Index deliver at our hospital. This study was undertaken with an aim to study the Perinatal-Neonatal outcome in mothers having Severe Oligohydramnios. Materials and Methods: Prospective Case-Control study carried from April 2016 to November, 2016. In our study, a total of 236 cases and controls were enrolled, out of which 24 were lost to follow up. Results: There was higher percentage of LSCS as compared to the controls, weight in cases were significantly lower than those of controls, there were more discharged newborns in Controls as compared to Cases, there was higher percentage of Functional Renal morbidities (30.47%) as compared to the controls.  Conclusions: There was significant difference Neonatal Outcome of Pregnancy with Oligohydramnios with Neonatal Outcome of Gestationally matched Pregnancy with Normal Amniotic Fluid volume. No significant difference found Perinatal-Neonatal Outcome of Pregnancy with Isolated Oligohydramnios and those associated with other Maternal Morbidities. Keywords: Oligohydramnios, Fetus, Perinatal, Neonatal outcome.

Abstract

Background: Relationship between foot length and stature exist which are useful in crime scene investigations and mass accidents where only certain parts of the body are found and positive correlation coefficient is applied for the purpose of identification. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out in a population of Western Maharashtra. A total of 100 people (43 males and 57 females) in the age group of 18-30 years were part of the study. All the aims and objectives of the study were properly explained to the people. Foot length was measured from the most prominent point of the back of heel to the tip of great toe using a Vernier caliper. Result: Through this study a positive correlation between foot length and stature was established and a regression equation was obtained. Conclusion: Either right or left foot length may be used to predict the stature using regression formula which shall be a useful aid for Anthropologists and Medico legal experts. Keywords: Foot length, Stature, Vernier caliper, Crime scene investigation, Medicolegal.
