Abstract

Introduction: The proximal femoral nail (PFN) used as an intramedullary device for the treatment of fractures. Objectives: Study was taken to analyse the union of the subtrochanteric fracture, internally fixed with PFN. Materials and Methods: Study was conducted in the department of orthopaedics, GSL Medical College. Individuals with acute subtrochanteric femur fractures >18 years were included in the study. The patient was positioned supine on the fracture table under spinal or epidural or general anesthesia as the condition of the patient permitted. Pre-operatively one dose of antibiotic was also administered. The fracture was reduced by longitudinal traction on fracture table and the limb was placed in neutral or slight adduction to facilitate nail insertion through the greater trochanter ; P Results: At the end of five months, all except three patients could mobilise independently; statistically there was significant difference (P excellent, 18 patients were good and 4 patients had fair outcome. Conclusion: Minimal exposure, better stability and early mobilization are the advantages with PFN. Fractures united in all cases and postoperative functional outcome was satisfactory. PFN could be a preferred implant of choice in treating subtrochanteric fractures especially in elderly. Keywords: Fracture, Femur, Operative, Subtrochanteric.

Abstract

Introduction: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury is one of the common ly injured ligaments around the knee with various clinical problems. With this study was conducted to find the postoperative outcome of arthroscopic ACL reconstruction with quadrupled semitendinosus tendon auto graft fixed in femoral tunnel. Materials and Methods: Study was conducted in the department of orthopaedics, GSL Medical College. ACL teared, mature, adult patients which was confirmed by Lachman test with concomitant meniscal injury that require repair were included in the study, p re operative management and diagnostic arthroscopy, post operative recovery was graded as per the International Knee documentation Knee score (IKDKS); P was considered statistically significant. Results: Total 25 patients were included, mean age was 29 years and one was female. With post operative KDC score, 68% scored normal, 24% near normal and 8% scored abnormal; statistically the difference was significant (P grade 1 results. Conclusion: With these study findings, we conclude that, with ACL reconstruction, there was good success rate; moreover the functional result was also high. However small sample size and short duration of the study are the limitations. Keywords: Knee, Ligament, Tendon.

Abstract

Introduction: In young children, it was reported that respiratory tract is the significant cause for infections as well as death. A study was conducted to find the bacteriological and radiological findings and correlation with clinical findings in children with pneumonia. Materials and Methods: Study was conducted in GSL Medical College. Study protocol was approved by institutional ethics committee. Informed consent was collected from the parents / guardians of all the study participants. Children in the aged 1 to 5 years with clinical signs suggestive of pneumonia were included. Clinical and radiological finding were recorded. Radiological findings also used to categorize bacterial and viral pneumonia. P< 0> Results: Total 94 participants were included, female male ratio was 58:36. In this report, 86% were bronchopneumonia, 12% lobar pneumonia and 2% empyema; bacterial pneumonia was diagnosed in 44% cases, viral pneumonia in 52% and 4.3% were diagnosed to be normal. Tachypnoea (95.74%), chest retractions (100%), crepitations and ronchi (100%), abnormal breath sounds (100%) correlated well with positive radiological findings. Crepitations alone and ronchi alone has least correlation. Conclusion: Pneumonia is one of the major causes of lung infection of children. The radiological findings are very essential for diagnosis of pneumonia Keywords: Infection, Pneumonia, Respiratory.
