Abstract

Objectives: The objective was to study the epidemiological, clinical and radiological aspects of patients with mandibular fractures in the odontostomatology department at the General hospital Idrissa Pouye in Senegal. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study of the records of patients who came for a mandibular fracture during the period from February 2007 to June 2019 to the odontostomatology department of the General hospital Idrissa Pouye in Dakar. The inclusion criterion was any patient file containing complete information and presenting a mandibular fracture received in the odontostomatology department. We used sociodemographic, clinical and radiographic variables. Results: Of 128 patients who came for consultation with a mandibular fracture, 115 were male and 13 were female. The age group most affected was between 21 and 30 years. Workers (25.2%), pupils and students (25.2%) were the most represented. The most frequent cause of mandibular fractures was road traffic accidents (36.71%). In 41% of the road accidents, Jakarta mopeds were involved. The diagnosis was confirmed by radiological examination, which consisted of an orthopantomogram in 83.5% of cases. The mandibular symphysis was the most frequent location with 40.3% of fracture sites. Total continuity of the lines was observed in 21.9% of cases.   Keywords: Mandibular fractures, Clinical aspects, Radiological aspects.

Abstract

Consultation in our countries of acute cases is rare due to delayed consultation due to the inaccessibility of health facilities and the poverty of patients living in remote areas. The early management of this case until the complete cure of its loss of substance prompted us to report ca case. The deaf and dumb 11-year-old patient exhibited pain and discomfort during feeding with losses through the . Dental mobility was associated with malnutrition and weight loss. Faced with this table, the diagnosis of acute was made. The drug treatment consisted of antibiotic therapy based on amoxicillin associated with . Treatment consisted of debridement of tissues using compresses and then iodine followed by daily poses and adhesive tape. A gradual decrease in the diameter of substance loss had been observed between five and 30 days with healing at five months. Early treatment of the acute phase prevents its evolution into the phase, which has repercussions that are difficult to take on with expensive means. Keywords: Noma, Management.

Abstract

Objective: To study the characteristics of trigeminal pain and the treatments applied to this condition in the odontostomatology department of the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital in Dakar (Senegal). Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study, involving records of patients with trigeminal neuralgia who were followed in the odontostomatology department between January 2015 and June 2020. The inclusion criterion was any patient record containing complete information and presenting trigeminal neuralgia treated in the odontostomatology department. We used sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic variables. Results: Of the 52 patients, 70% were female. According to profession, half of the patients (49.9%) were unemployed. The pains described were mainly of the type of electric dump (42.3%) and strock stab (30.76%). Pain was triggered at a trigger point related to touch on trigger zone in 28.84% of cases, and spontaneous pain in 26.92% of cases. Trigeminal neuralgia affected the V1, V2 and V3 nerve. The duration of symptoms varied over one or more years. Carbamazepine was routinely prescribed in patients in this study in combination with vitamin B1B6B12. Depending on the intensity of pain, prednisone was also prescribed. Thirty-four patients were given alcohol. The pain subsided in the patients over a period of 1 month to 1.5 years. Keywords: Neunalgia trigeminal, Clinical feature, Therapeutic attitude.

Abstract

An x-ray examination allowed the implant to be visualized and the amount of bone to be assessed at the site of the implant placement. Maxillary implants may have close relationships with the maxillary sinus. A preliminary X-ray examination of the implant site was used to assess the quality and quantity of bone and to assess the proximity of the sinuses. The authors report the extraction of a dental implant projected into the left maxillary sinus, associated with chronic sinusitis in a 65-year-old patient who did not previously receive sinus lift. An orthopantogram was used to visualize the cylindrical implant in an upright position in a very prominent sinus. With the maxillary scanner, the implant was located with more precision in 3D, surrounded by a frame image representing the purulent collection. The extraction of the implant projected into the sinus by a simple technique under local anesthesia was decided. A control orthopaontogram showed the emptiness of the sinus cavity. The surgical suites were simple. Elimination of an enlarged crestal intra sinusal implant should be undertaken first-line in oral surgery as it is simple and less invasive. To prevent these incidents, short implants or sinus elevation technique are alternatives for prominent bone and/or sinus deficits visualized through 3D imaging. Keywords: Implant projection, Maxillary sinus, Chronic sinusitis.
