Background and Objectives: Caring is viewed as the central focus of nursing ‘Care of Nurses’ play the most crucial role in caring patients by building an interpersonal relationship. Caring is the central focus of the nursing.
Background and Objectives: Nurses demonstrate professional skills and give attention to the patient. Nurses not only give medicines but also respect the patient, give feelings of security and minimize anxiety. Nurses provide comfort and support to the patients and family members.
Materials and Methods: Descriptive and comparative design was adopted for the study. 75 cholecystectomy patients and 30 nurses were selected using purposive sampling technique from the surgery units of Guwahati Medical College Hospital and Mahendra Mohan Hospital, Guwahati, Assam. Caring Behaviour Inventory (CBI) tool was used to assess the perception on nurse caring behaviour of the cholecystectomy patients and the nurses posted in surgery units. Data was analysed by using the software package named SPSS 24 Version.
Results: there is significant difference of approx. 5% of the patients have positive perception in domain “assurance”, difference of 1% of the nurses have positive perception in domain “knowledge and skills”, difference of 1% of the nurses have positive perception in domain “respectfulness”, difference of 2% of nurses have positive perception in domain “positive connectedness”.
Conclusion: The patients enrolled for the study perceived in a positive way. Their perception they received was found to be at lower level. Giving attention is required by the nurses to enhance patient perception.
