In histocompatibility and immunogenetics (H and I) laboratories, testing accuracy directly affects patient selection, donor-recipient matching, organ allocation, and post-transplant outcomes. Assessing competency is crucial for maintaining quality control in laboratory services. The complexity and rapid advancement in human leukocyte antigen typing, antibody testing, and crossmatch methodologies require structured, validated approaches to evaluating laboratory personnel competency. This is an attempt to bring together current practices, regulatory expectations, available assessment tools, and emerging innovations in H and I laboratory services for competency assessment.
