Abstract

Lesions of the jaw range from benign to benign aggressive to malignant etiologies. They can be cysts, cyst-like lesions or tumors. These can be odontogenic or non-odontogenic. Imaging plays a vital role in narrowing down the list of possible differential diagnoses. A systematic approach is essential to provide a meaningful diagnosis for each patient. These lesions can broadly be radiolucent or radio-opaque on radiography which is the most widely used preliminary imaging modality. With the development of advanced imaging techniques, the role of the radiologist has become indispensable. This review article aims to make the radiologists familiar with the commonly encountered jaw lesions and help develop a systematic approach for the evaluation of these lesions.   Keywords: Computed tomography, Magnetic resonance imaging, Orthopantomogram, Jaw lesions, Radiolucent, Radioopaque
