Abstract

Aim: To emphasize the incidence of pyogenic granuloma in expecting mothers and a combined treatment of conventional method and diode laser. Background: A pregnancy tumor is a pyogenic granuloma occurring on the gingiva during the gestation period. However, the term pyogenic granuloma is deceptive, because the lesion is distinct from infection. Case Description: In this case series, 2 clinical reports are discussed in detail, unfolding the clinical appearance of the particular lesion. The histopathological correlation has been established and an apposite treatment modality is described, focusing on the minute considerations. Conclusion: We observed a challenging incidence of overgrowth that was disturbing for the subjects, affecting their health along with the fetus'. There was no adverse effect while treating them during the 2 trimester of gestation. We were also efficient in achieving instantaneous coagulation with lasers preceded by comprehensive removal of the lesion using blades, making it a suitable and safe tool. Clinical Significance: The dilemma of the clinician was resolved confirming that surgical excision is the gold standard for the complete removal of the lesion along with added benefits of lasers to reduce patient discomfort and accelerate healing.   Keywords: Diode Lasers, Epulis fissuratum, Gingival overgrowth, Pyogenic Granuloma, Scalpel- Blade Biopsy, Surgical excision.

Abstract

The permanent replacement of missing teeth in the maxillary posterior tooth region becomes a tedious task when it is confounded with bone atrophies. To overcome this problem and achieve successful rehabilitation, maxillary sinus membrane elevation procedures have been advocated as the most reliable means. The lateral window technique and the crestal approach are two of the most common approaches. These technologically developed procedures have reported high success rates in cases of deficient residual bone. Over time, there have been many advancements in these techniques that led to the development of user-friendly kits like the Lateral approach Sinus (LAS) kit and the Crestal approach Sinus (CAS) kit. In this case series, we have reported two cases, treated with either of these approaches and have compared the same. We aim at highlighting their ease of application in the clinical field and the promising results obtained with their use. Our clinical experience disclosed that maxillary sinus membrane advancement using both the kits have proven to be a reliable technique for implant placement in sites where insufficient bone is available.   Keywords: Crestal approach sinus lift, Hard tissue augmentation, Lateral window approach sinus lift, Platelet rich fibrin membrane, Transalveolar approach sinus lift
