Abstract

The successful rehabilitation of completely edentulous patient is a pleasant surprise for old aged patient and a reward to a prosthodontist. Although implant supported prosthesis have grown as a new treatment trend for edentulous patients but choosing the best form of therapy should reflect dentist’s knowledge for effectiveness of treatment and at the same time patient understanding of treatment risks and also cost effectiveness. In developing countries, cost is being a major determinant of patient’s choice specially with unemployed residual ridge. In this case report a clinical technique has been explained for physiologic registration of denture tooth position, denture base contours and body forms for resorbed mandibular ridges. Keywords: Resorbed ridge, Neutral zone, Teeth arrangement, Complete denture.

Abstract

A good quality impression is only obtained when we have a thorough knowledge of materials, their properties and techniques for their best manipulation. In order to do so spacers are advocated for optimal thickness of impression materials in the custom tray to get the most accurate impression. There are vast number of impression techniques available in the field of Fixed Prosthodontics. Every technique has its own advantages and disadvantages, but still no impression technique is perfect with all the qualities inherent in it. The present review article discusses various impression techniques and their use in Fixed Prosthodontics. Keywords: Spacers, Impression techniques.

Abstract

The purpose of maintaining the roots of one or more natural teeth in the oral cavity is to reduce the rate of ridge resorption, maintaining proprioception and providing alveolar bone support and achieve better stability of the denture with emphasis on psychological aspect of not being completely edentulous. This case report describes the utilization of the endodontically treated remaining natural roots to fabricate an overdenture that provided better retention than a conventional complete denture. Keywords: Overdenture, Overlay denture, Proprioception, Post and core.

Abstract

Mucormycosis is a potentially fatal opportunistic fungal illness that is brought on by molds from the Zygomycetes class, specifically the Mucorales order. It predominantly affects individuals with diabetes and compromised immune systems. In India, the number of COVID-19 cases has significantly increased recently. The unexpected surge in mucormycosis cases has prompted several Indian states and union territories to designate the disease an epidemic, placing further strain on the already overworked healthcare system. To evaluate Uttarakhand dentists’ attitude, knowledge, and awareness of mucormycosis.A study assessing dentists in Uttarakhand's knowledge, understanding, and attitudes regarding mucormycosis was carried out between May and June of 2024. The fourteen online survey was distributed to recent graduates, postgraduate (MDS) students, MDS faculty members employed as academic staff in dental colleges, and local private practitioners. In this research, 218 dentists took part and the average scores for knowledge and awareness among participants were 58.03% and 85.9%, respectively.Enhancing dentists’ knowledge and perspectives on mucormycosis, a recently identified public health concern, is essential. Standard care for mucormycosis must include early detection, risk factor minimization, and underlying condition management. Patients with predisposed circumstances require a high degree of suspicion, which healthcare providers must maintain to diagnose the disease quickly. This emphasizes how crucial an interdisciplinary team approach is to the diagnosis and care of those afflicted with this condition.

Abstract

This clinical case report presents the restoring of function and aesthetics of a 57-year-old male patient with partial edentulism and severely worn-out dentition, this clinical situation was Grade 2 attritions on the ordinal scale for grading severity of occlusal wear. This describes the full mouth rehabilitation, following the Pankey Mann Schuyler (PMS) philosophy, of the patient with severely worn-out dentition. This full mouth rehabilitation was planned to restore function and aesthetics.

Abstract

Aim: The study aimed to determine appropriate occlusal curve for patients and compare the clinical curves with ideal occlusal curves. Objective: Assessment of the significance of deviations in occlusal curves between patients with missing posterior teeth and those with complete dentition. Materials and Methods: The study comprised of oral examination of 52 subjects. Followed by obtaining study models of their dentition which were articulated on a semi adjustable articulator and the occlusal curve was assessed using custom built occlusal plane analyser. The deviations from the plane were noted and to this data paired t- tests was applied and results were formulated. Results: A significant difference (P

Abstract

To create an implant prosthesis that fits well, a precise implant impression is necessary. This in vitro study assessed the dimensional accuracy of open tray impressions vs digital impressions taken with an intraoral scanner for tracking the locations of parallel-placed endosseous implants. Two parallel endosseous implants were positioned in a mandibular customized model made up of epoxy resin at the first premolar sites. The inter-implant distance was measured using a Co-ordinate Measuring Machine (SIPCON SVI CNC 3D). Conventional open tray impressions were made using addition silicone, while digital impressions were captured with an intraoral scanner (CEREC OMNICAM). A total of 10 impressions were collected for both techniques. The inter-implant distance for both groups was measured using the analyzing tool in CEREC Dentsply Sirona software and compared with the CMM readings. The mean values of the two groups were compared using a Student's t-test, and statistical significance was established using a p-value threshold of less than 0.05. A p-value of 0.547 for the Open Tray group i.e more than 0.05—showed no statistical significance. When compared to other groups, the digital scan group showed statistically significant outcomes with a p-value of 0.031, which is less than 0.05.Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the results showed that digital impressions demonstrated significantly greater dimensional accuracy compared to conventional (open tray) impressions for parallel-placed endosseous implants.
