Abstract

Purpose: To compare the post operative results of pterygium excision surgery by bare sclera technique versus conjunctival autograft technique. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients who underwent pterygium excision with either bare sclera technique or with conjunctival autograft between March 2015 to March 2020 was done. Data of 38 eyes was shortlisted and analyzed. Data analysis was done using Microsoft Excel 2017 and SPSS Software. Results: 38 patients were shortlisted and divided into two groups. Bare sclera technique (Group A) was used in 19 patients, whereas Pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft (Group B) was done in 19 patients. There was no major vision threatening complications in any group. Moreover, there was not a single case of graft rejection or graft shedding in group B. Conclusion: Comparison of the groups showed that the rate of recurrence was more in group A (Bare Sclera Technique Group) as compared to group B (Excision with Autograft method). Although conjunctival autograft technique is comparatively difficult and time consuming, but cosmetic results are better and rewarding. Abstract

To assess the practical difficulties and results of probing for Congenital Naso Lacrimal Duct Obstruction under topical anesthesia. 500 infants (650 eyes) were selected. Age ranges from 3-12 months and study was done over a period of 10 years. Probing was done in those children in which medical treatment (antibiotic drops and sac massage) have failed. Topical anesthesia (Lidocaine 4%/ Proparacaine 0.5%) was used for probing. This procedure was successful in 95.2% in first & 98.4% in second sitting without any significant complication. Thus probing under topical anesthesia is a shorter & convenient method. Keywords: Probing, Epiphora, Nasolacrimal duct.

Abstract

Age and uncontrolled hypertension are well established risk factors for retinal vascular occlusion. IOL (intraocular lens) implantation following intraoperative posterior capsule rupture has an increased risk of IOL dislocation in the posterior segment. We came across a case of infero-temporal branched retinal vein occlusion followed by a direct injury by a mobile IOL which was posteriorly dislocated. The patient also had one another posteriorly dislocated IOL which was stuck in the anterior vitreous. This case highlights the need for the urgent removal of a posteriorly dislocated mobile IOL, which should precede the placement of a secondary IOL to avoid ocular complications. Keywords: Branch retinal vein occlusion, Vascular occlusion, Posteriorly dislocated IOL, Mobile IOL, Secondary IOL
