Abstract
Periodontitis is a pathological disorder that involves inflammation of the periodontium and this occurs as a response to various pathogens. The immune complex or the host defense system comprises of host responses that aim at blocking the invading pathogens that cause periodontal diseases. Cells of the immune system that play a vital role in inflammation and host defense are neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages, dendritic cells, mast cells and lymphocytes that include T-cells and B-cells.
