Dr. Tanim Jabid Hossain is a microbial biochemist and molecular biology researcher specializing in host–microbe–environment interactions, integrating genomics, glycomics, metabolomics, and secretomics to elucidate microbial metabolic pathways and bioactive metabolites for health, agriculture, and environmental applications.
He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is the Founder and Principal Investigator of the HOPE Lab (Laboratory for Health, Omics and Pathway Exploration). His research centers on microbial metabolic pathways and functional microbial products such as exopolysaccharides, biosurfactants, pigments, and antimicrobial peptides. A principal theme of his work is the development of One Health probiotics that link human, animal, and plant health, alongside investigations into microbial roles in environmental sustainability, biogeochemical carbon cycling, and ecosystem resilience.
His doctoral studies were completed at RIKEN (Glycometabolome Laboratory) and Saitama University, Japan, under Dr. Tadashi Suzuki, with a focus on protein glycosylation, glycoconjugate catabolism, N-linked glycan diversity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and microbial degradation of C-linked glycoconjugates. Current work employs multi-omics approaches to study probiotics, plant-associated microbes, extremophiles, zoonotic and phytopathogens, and multidrug-resistant organisms, with emphasis on translating microbial functions and metabolites into practical health, agricultural, and environmental solutions.
