Abstract

Introduction: FNAC plays an important role in the early diagnosis of the axillary swelling. This study was conducted to document the spectrum of lesions on the patients that came for FNAC with the complain of axillary swelling. Materials and methods: Present study was carried out at the Department of Pathology. A total of 30 cases of axillary swelling which were referred for FNAC in the department of Pathology, over the period of 3 months were retrospectively evaluated. All the stained slides of the cases were also reviewed. Results : From 30 cases there were 13 males and 17 females. On examining the stained slides maximum number of cases presented with chronic granulomatous lymphadenitis followed by Reactive lymphadenitis , Lipoma, Ductal carcinoma metastasis of breast in axillary lymphnode, chronic non-specific lymphadenitis, One unusual case of Hydatid cyst who presenting with axillary swelling was also diagnosed. Conclusion : FNAC is an important tool in differentiating benign and malignant lesions thus, helps in the proper management of the disease.   Keywords: Axillary swelling, FNAC, Benign and Malignant

Abstract

Introduction: Abnormal uterine bleeding is a common clinical presentation in the perimenopausal age group its biopsy serves as an excellent clue to the underlying disease. The presentation may vary according to the type of endometrial hyperplasia and their correlation helps in the proper management of the patients complain. Objective : To analyze the histopathological patterns of endometrial hyperplasia as well as to correlate endometrial hyperplasia with the clinical parameters. Materials and Methods: It is a retrospective study and included one year data. A total of 125 cases that underwent hysterectomies or endometrial biopsies for abnormal uterine bleeding were recorded with their clinical history. For all cases the histopathology slides were re-evaluated and results were recorded. Epidemiological variables were analyzed by cross tabulation to assess their relationship. Result: Out of 125 cases 53 cases had endometrial hyperplasia, 24 cases were having simple hyperplasia followed by 14 cases with simple hyperplasia without atypia, 9 cases with complex hyperplasia with atypia followed by 6 cases with complex hyperplasia without atypia. 30 to 50 years age group commonly had endometrial hyperplasia & menorrhagia was the common clinical complain in our patients. Conclusion : In all the females coming to OPD with abnormal uterine bleeding clinical correlation should be properly made with biopsy report of the patient for the proper management of the condition, which avoids landing up of the patient into further complication.   Keywords: Endometrial hyperplasia, Clinical complains, Clinicpathological correlation

Abstract

Introduction: Cervical lymphadenopathy is a common clinical presentation of various diseases its FNAC serves as an excellent clue to the underlying disease. The presentation of cervical lymphadenopathy varies in different age groups and in both the both the gender as well. Objective: To analyze the spectrum of lesions causing cervical lymphadenopathy as well as to see the age and gender wise distribution of cases of tubercular lymphadenitis. Materials and Methods: It is a retrospective study and included three years data. A total of 222 cases that underwent FNA for cervical lymphadenopathy were recorded with their clinical history. For all cases, MGG, Pap and AFB slides were re evaluated and results were recorded. Epidemiological variables were analyzed by cross tabulation to assess their relationship. Result: Out of 222 cases 117 cases were of Tubercular lymphadenitis followed by 81 cases of reactive lymphadenitis, 10 cases presented as metastatic deposit of squamous cell carcinoma, 9 with Lymphoma (NHL) followed by 5 cases of adenocarcinoma deposits. Females to males ratio in Tuberculosis lesions was 1.3:1. Conclusion: In both pediatric and adult population Tuberculosis was an important cause of cervical lymphadenopathy while in children less than two years reactive lymphadenitis was more common. Tuberculosis was more common in females as compared to males and here FNAC is an inexpensive and valuable fist line tool in assessing cervical lymphadenopathies. Keywords: Cervical lymphadenopathy, Tuberculosis, FNAC, Age and gender.
