Abstract

Oral cavity is an extremely demanding setting. Most dental materials are in intimate contact with oral tissue for a long time; they must be biocompatible for them to have a harmonious interaction with the host while performing the desired functions. Therefore, there is always a huge interest and strong trend in continuous development of dental materials with improvised properties. Over the past few decades, with the discovery of fullerene in 1985 and carbon nanotubes in 1991, carbon based nanomaterials have been merited on the scientific stage. Graphene is one such material. It is the thinnest and strongest material in existence. Graphene, a single-layer carbon sheet with a hexagonal packed lattice structure, has shown many unique properties, it has shown outstanding potential in many research fields including prosthodontics and allied dental specialities. This review includes studies of Graphene published in the English language. The EMBASE and MEDLINE (National Library of Medicine) databases were searched through PubMed. The keywords consisting of “graphene oxide” , “graphene in prosthodontics” and “graphene in dentistry” were used.   Keywords: Graphene oxide, Graphene in Prosthodontics, Graphene in dentistry

Abstract

Traditional methods will be rendered obsolete, if not supplemented by current techniques and evidence. This requires a clinician to continuously recognize, scrutinize and consolidate the best available scientific literature in the field. Continuous improvement in the quality of research conducted, as well as reporting the findings should be encouraged to improve upon current and future treatments. This review showcases the most prominent controversies in prosthodontics and how the current evidence answers the questions. A PubMed, Met line and google scholar search with the keywords, Evidence-based dentistry and Evidence-based Prosthodontics was done from the year 1960-2021. Meta-analysis of randomized control trials and systematic reviews related to the evidence in complete dentures, fixed partial dentures, implants and prosthodontics were considered in the inclusion criteria. Literature reviews and case reports were excluded from the search. Evidence-based practice is a new level of sophistication in the practice of dentistry. Rather than considering the cost of material or the individual preference of the operator, choosing the right technique to maximize clinical efficiency should be based on scientific evidence.   Keywords: Evidence-based dentistry, Evidence-based Prosthodontics

Abstract

Maxillary Inadequacies originate due to various aetiologies. Prosthetic restoration of the defect often includes use of a surgical obturator, interim obturator and definitive obturator. Prosthetic design has been discussed by many authors. A search of dental literature through April 2020 was undertaken by use of PubMed. The focus of the search was on occlusion concepts and schemes incorporated in the designing of a maxillary obturator prosthesis for partially edentulous hemimaxillectomy patients. In addition, some common textbooks on removable and maxillofacial prosthodontics were scrutinised for additional documentation. The significance of occlusion should be emphasized in the support of maxillary obturator prostheses. Till date there is no literature review on the the array of concepts of occlusion incorporated in maxillary obturator fabrication. Keywords: Occlusal schemes, Maxillary obturators, Occlusal concepts in Definitive obturators.
