Abstract

2, 4-dichloro-5’fluoro-1-ene-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) phenone (EHP) was synthesized using 4- hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2,4-dichloro-5-fluoro acetophenone (DFA). 4-[3-(2, 4-dichloro-5-fluorophenyl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]phenyl acrylate (EAP) was prepared by reacting EHP with acryloyl  hloride using ethyl methyl ketone (EMK) as a solvent in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) as a base at 0-50. Poly (EAP) was prepared by solution polymerization technique using benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a free radical initiator and EMK as a solvent at 70 ± 10. EHP, EAP and poly (EAP) were characterized by Infrared, proton NMR and 13C NMR techniques. Anti-microbial activity of the DFA, EHP, EAP and poly (EAP) were tested on three different ATCC microorganisms (E.coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Salmonella Typhi ATCC 6539). The minimum concentration of the drug needed to inhibit the growth of the bacteria was estimated using photometry assay method. Keywords: Chalcones, Antimicrobials, Polymerization, Dimethyl sulphoxide.

Abstract

A novel UV-Visible and reversed phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous analysis of gemifloxacin and their formulation. The UV-Visible method was carried with folin reagent and reverse Phase HPLC method with acetonitrile: phosphate buffer (40:60%v/v) mobile phase, having a pH of 3.0 at a wavelength of 272 nanometer. The linearity range starts from 2 to10?g/ml and 1 to 5?g/ml, percentage recovery was found to be 98.55% and 99.68%, limit of detection 0.2651?g and 0.1588?g and 0.8033?g and 0.4811?g for the UV-Visible and RP-HPLC methods respectively. Keywords: Reversed phase-HPLC, UV-Visible, Gemifloxacin, Folin-Ciocalteu phenol reagent, Phosphate buffer.

Abstract

Reaction of O-phenylenediamine with phthalic anhydride gives 2H-benzimidazole -1-yl-3, 8 - benzpyrolidine - 2-one (I) This on condensation with anthranilic acid and 4-aminoacetophenone gives II. II on reaction with different aldehydes in presence of sodium hydroxide and ethanol stirred at room temperature for 24 h gives N-[4-(3-Aryl-acryloyl)–phenyl]–2-(1H– benzimidazol–2–yl)–benzamide (III-X). All the compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR and Mass spectral analysis. All the compounds have been evaluated for their anti-tubercular activity against different stain of mycobacterium species. Keywords: Benzimidazole, O-phenylenediamine, Tuberculastatics, Antimicrobials, Aminobenzaldehyde.
