Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of death worldwide with an estimated 7 million
deaths per year. The majority of these deaths are due to acute myocardial infarction (AMI), so the
burden of illness and mortality from AMI is immense worldwide. A region based study was designed
and implemented in Government Medical College, Jammu. The outputs obtained have established that the
various conventional risk factors like Sex, Age, Dietary pattern, Smoking, Alcohol consumption do have
similar pattern in Jammu region as found in rest of the world. Males are more prone to AMI as compared
