A demanding procedure in the rehabilitation of atrophied edentulous jaws is implant insertion. Various bone augmentation procedures like ridge augmentation, sinus lift are possible today, which increases the risk and cost of dental implant treatment as well as the number of necessary operations. Patients with severely atrophied jaw bones paradoxically receive little or no treatment. Basal implants are helpful in avoiding the risky and expensive bone augmentation procedures.
The basal bone is, which usually remains free from the infection and less prone to resorption, gives support to basal implants. In this article, we shall review the basal implantology.
