Objective: Efficacy of platysma flap in terms of esthetics, function (mouth opening) & postoperative compliance of the patient.
Materials and Methods: Eight cases are included, seven men and one women, 40 - 50 years old, after resection of fibrous bands. All of them were reconstructed with a platysmaflap.
Results: No local complications occurred with this technique. Overall aesthetic and functional results were acceptable in all the patients. Of 8 patients, six had no postoperative complications. The remaining two developed venous congestion, with limited skin loss. All flaps remained viable.
Conclusion: The platysma flap is a good method to reconstruct buccal mucosa after resection of bands in oral submucous fibrosis. It is a versatile, portable, and thin flap, is easy to perform with a primary closure of the donor site.
